Voici la version originale de l'interview de Frank O'Connor et de Luke Smith, employés de chez Bungie. Vous pourrez retrouver la version française traduite
à cette adresseInterviewHFr : Okay everybody is here?Lukems : Yeah, lezz do et.
HFr : First, you know, Halo is our life, we play Halo, we eat Halo, and we dream Halo, so thanks for this interview.Lukems : Sure thing!
Frankie : you're welcome.
HFr : Do you come on Halo.Fr sometimes?F : I do occasionally, but my French is lousy, "j'mapelle Frank!", "Ferme la bouche!".
L : “ques il faut”, If it was Halo.de I could sorta understand stuff, but I haven't had any French since I was 15. I only know French from hitting on French girls in college, in Scotland. (Ecosse!).
How do you say "I have cool stuff in my room, you should come check it out" en francais
HFr : "J'ai de superbes choses dans ma chambre, tu devrais venir voir ça"L : Ctrl+C and Ctrl V'd for posterity
F : How do you say, "If you come to the castle with me, I can show you the gargoyles." or "I got candy, get in the van"
HFr : Very useful! "J'ai des bonbons, monte dans le van"F : I agree
HFr : Why did you apply for a job at Bungie Studios rather than at Rare Studio or somewhere else?
F : Well in my case, I knew some folks from Bungie - we got to talking and the next thing I knew, here I was. It wasn't really planned. And Rare is in England, which is a long commute.
L : That's pretty much the exact same thing that happened with me. Bungie had a hole and instead of more cowbell they filled it with me.
HFr : At the beginning of the development of Halo 3, what was the goal of Bungie for the last episode of your trilogy? Would you call it a success? F : We wanted to close the series with a bang. Make sure that loose ends were tied up plot-wise, but more importantly, give the players plenty of meat to sink their teeth into - lots of modes, maps and features to explore and play with. Most Halo players still haven't tried all of the features in the game - like skulls, screenshots, clips and so on
L : I joined Bungie relatively late in the project, so I wasn't as in tune with the high level goals for the project, let alone with the trilogy, in the same fashion that Frankie is and was. Finishing the fight was always important, but more so, it's about making sure players get as much as they can from the product and its featureset.
HFr : Which functionality was the hardest to integrate in the final game?F & L: Everything was tough - but four player co-op was the last thing to be finished - so in a sense, that was the most design and technology intensive problem at the end of the project.
HFr : What about the AU1? Is it a matter of months or days?L : AU1 is a little further away than days and a bit sooner than "months." It's coming along really well. We're testing it nightly in takehome tests and yes, melee is being retuned as a part of AU1.
F : One of the reasons it's taking a long time is diligent testing. We're making subtle changes - and those are often harder to perfect than broad strokes.
HFr : Melee... Melee is polemic, how are you going to remove the problems with it? What are you going to do in order to make it look better?F & L : We're working on making the experience more fair and more enjoyable for everyone. I can't say too much more at this point. It is a tricky problem and one that requires tricky solutions.
HFr : You used a lot of the concepts that you weren’t able to integrate into the previous games for the next ones. Why didn’t you use the Warthog « Snow » in Halo 3?

Did you have other prototypes like this and which was the more delirious?F : We always prototype and build things that for various reasons, don't make it into the game. But as Luke has mentioned before, we're not done with vehicles quite yet...
HFr : A surprise with new DLC, Warthog customisation?L : But don't get too excited and think that means a brand new never before seen vehicle is going to pop up in DLC. But other tweaks and changes can be made to vehicles that change their gameplay functionality and their appearance.
F : Whatever you do, don't get too excited.
L : Everyone is so excitable. I mean, I'm excited right now.
HFr : Could you give us an estimation of the number of Easter eggs in Halo 3? Which one is your favourite?L : Oh, there's tons of them, there's even more Easter Eggs in the Heroic Map Pack. My favorite Easter Egg probably would've been the IWHBYD skull, if not for those pesky text strings that essentially solved the puzzle Marty created. I still think folks would be trying to solve that sonic riddle if not for the hex data.
F : I have leet skillz. My favorite Easter Egg is the Thunderstorm skull. It's fun to try and get and fun to use.
HFr : You have announced that Halo 3 uses more than 30 000 voices, a big number compared with Halo: CE and Halo 2. Are these 30 000 voices exclusives to the English version or is it the same case for the other versions, like French one?F & L : I believe that most of the english dialog was translated into the main languages. It should be close, if not identical.
HFr : Did you expect this huge amount of fan creations for Halo 3 (like machinimas (who said DIgital Ph33r ?), Forge variants, gametypes …)? L : Even as far back to Halo: CE, the machinima community has been really great to Bungie and the Halo series, we tried to provide some tools that would make things a little easier for machinima creators and by that token, we're glad that they are getting used. Digital Ph33r is great, his stuff is pretty hilarious.
F : We expected it, I suppose, but then it all comes and it's still surprising.
HFr : If I went to Seattle, do you think that Luke would offer me my Steak Dinner?F : I hope he would live up to his challenge.
L : No, absolutely not. That'd set a dangerous precedent. I still owe myself 60 some odd steaks, and my father said "Pay yourself first, then pay your bills." So that's what I'm gonna do. The debts of meat will live on in eternia.
HFr : Last week, Halo 3 went down to the second place of the Top Ten Xbox Live, behind Call Of Duty 4. How would you explain that?F : There will be more to say about that very soon.
L : We've been out a bit longer than those guys, it's great that so many folks are buying games and playing games online.
HFr : We all know Bungie for Halo series, but also for other game/series like Myth, Oni, and Marathon. Bungie is now independent and do you have the project to create a brand new licence? Maybe will you stay in the Halo universe and work into a new kind of game? Maybe both? And do you have the project to put Oni ore Myth on Xbox live arcade ?F : Oni and Myth are both owned by Take 2 Interactive, s as you can imagine, any plans to work on those IPs would be in Take 2's capable hands.
L : As far as what we're working on? Steady work is going into sustaining Halo 3 with DLC and aside from that, we're full of mum and secrets right now.
HFr : Secrets aren’t good ... Especially with French community...F : What! Surely the French enjoy secrets! "Zut Alors!"
HFr : Do you will continue First Person Shooter ?F & L : We're an independent studio with a lot of great minds and resources looking at all kinds of genre. We have a long history of games, spanning everything from sports, to strategy, to side-scrolling shooters and more. We would never think we're trapped making just one genre and while we may well make more 1st person shooters, we're far from limited to that.
HFr : But the Halo licence is a property of Microsoft, everybody know that they want sequels. Do you think there’s a possibility that they would give Halo 4 to another studio?F : I'm sure that if MS wanted another Halo, they'd make good decisions about how to get that done.
L : Good decision makers, those folks are.
HFr : About Halo Wars again, on a recent screenshot we can see a fight between Covenants and Humans, as usual… But we can see a Halo in the background, 20 years before the human discovery of the first ring. Just one thing, What The Fuck?
http://www.halo.fr/images/news/20071228180019reel.jpgL : It's not really our business to talk about the choices Ensemble is making with Halo Wars. That would, however, be an excellent question to ask them.
F : We consulted with them for some time on the project, but you should always remember that concept art and final art are not the same things.
HFr : Here at Halo.fr, we really want to kick your ass in a Humpday Challenge… Possible?L : Playing us will be possible, beating us is unlikely
HFr : So thanks for the interview. Thanks to take time to answer.L & F: No ! Hopefully the interview went well enough for you guys! Hope you got what you needed.
